"The Mission Church!"

Welcome to Mission Church by way of cyberspace. It can never substitute for THE beautiful space of Mission Church here in Boston. Yet it is my hope and prayer that with your cyber visit you can at least get some 'glimpse' and experience some 'feel' for why so many thousands presently love our Basilica and Our Lady's Shrine.

Counting back to the first visitors who worshipped here in 1878 when the Church was completed, the numbers would be in the millions today. We joyfully celebrated the 125 anniversary of the dedication of Mission Church on April 7, 2003.

As Pastor of Mission Church I have now completed nearly six years. During this time we were able to renovate the beautiful space of Mission Church and as the painters said, "we will restore it to its original beauty". They were truly prophetic.

They did just that. The restoration work was completed in April 2001. This past May we completed a Parish Center in the basement of the Church that we hope will serve as a magnet to attract people from the parish and community. In doing so we will continue the long history of Mission Church with prayer in action. So many have learned by worshipping upstairs in the Basilica itself and then through their experience in our parish center will bring that prayer to action!

As a parish we are proud to say that we have come full circle. In 1870 when the Redemptorists came to Boston and subsequently had this beautiful basilica built, it was to minister to the newcomers to our shored. At that time it was the Germans, then the Irish, followed by the Hispanics, and the Afro- Americans in the 20th century. Today Mission Church is proudly ministering to people from all over the world, especially people relatively new to America.

If there is an opportunity to come to Mission Church and this would be your first visit, click on 'Directions to the Basilica". When you come and pray here you will never forget the experience. I agree with many people and I personally concur with them: this is one of the most beautiful churches not only in Boston, or the United States, but in the world itself.

You and your loved ones will be remembered daily in our prayers at the Eucharist and at the celebrated shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Please visit our homepage often as we are continually updating it.

Continue to pray for the work of the Redemptorists throughout the world as they work for the "most abandoned" and to make our Mother of Perpetual Help known throughout the world. Pray especially these days for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, especially to the Redemptorist way of life.

WELCOME AND EVERY BLESSING TO YOU AND YOURS!
