THE REDEMPTORIST SHIELD

Above are two images of the Redemportist Shield: the one on the left, the traditional sheld; on the right, a modern version.
The Cross shows our lives center around Jesus Christ the Redeemer and His Paschal Mystery of Death and Resurrection.
Redemptorists in the United States and Canada are a branch of the worldwide Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer which has personnel in over 70 nations. The Baltimore Province covers the eastern part of the United States, the Denver Province the western part. The Ste-Anne Beaupr6 Province covers French-speaking Canada and the Edmonton-Toronto Province the English-speaking sector. The members of these provinces, fathers and brothers, are men seeking to follow the example of Jesus Christ the Redeemer; that is, to be Redemptorists.
The Crown proclaims 'Jesus Christ is Lord" and that through the Cross we attain Glory with Christ who died and rose.
A circle represents the eye of God that looks upon us all with loving care and who knows all things and from whom nothing is secret or hidden
One of the greatest messages the Redemptorists proclaim is that of prayer done in a simple meditative way. Through prayer the Gospel message takes hold in our heart.
The laurel and acanthus leaves surround the logo in an embrace of living love and peace meant to be lived in a community
Redemptorists live in groups called communities consisting of a leader and from one to ten men. They have communities of candidates and students. They also care for their sick and elderly members in a health-care center.
The initials 'JS" after the style of ancient icons stand for "Jesus" who is the head of the Redemptorist family
Our family consists of members who profess the religious vows, Lay Missionaries who are collaborators in our ministry and Co- or Associate- Redemptorists, who help us by encouraging vocations and by supporting our seminarians and missionaries in the United States and Canada and in our far-flung network of foreign mission stations.
The initials "MA" after the style of ancient icons indicate our
patroness, the Blessed Virgin MaryA special reverence for Mary is part of our lives. For three generations Redemptorists spread the special devotion to Mary as Our Mother of Perpetual Help throughout the Catholic world. It became the most universal form of prayer to her after the rosary.
The Spear and Sponge are two reminders that Christ fully accepted our human nature and lived it to the end and that Christ loved us to the very depths as revealed by His suffering, passion, and death on our behalf.
We continue that life with its joys and sorrows, as do all Christians.
Copiosa Apud Eum Redemptio
In the traditional shield these words wave in a banner under the Shield; these words "With Him there is plentiful Redemption" is the great motto of the Redemptorists.
The four letters "C.SS.R" which you often see after the name of a Redemptorist stand for the official Latin name given to the Congregation: "Congregatio Sanctissimi Redemptorisis." The English translation is "Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer." However, professed members of the Congregation are more commonly called "Redemptorists."
